WILD SIGN RW PETER OLVECKY

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed left wing Peter Olvecky (pronounced ohl-VEH-tskee) to a rookie contract.

Olvecky, 19 (10/11/85), collected 19 points (10-9=19) and 49 penalty minutes (PIM) in 45 games during his first full season with Dukla Trencin and was named rookie of the year in the Slovakia Elite League. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound forward ranked tied for sixth on the team in goals and added two power play goals and two game-winning tallies. Olvecky skated on the team with Wild right wing Marian Gaborik. The Trencin, Slovakia-native recorded four points (3-1=4) in six games for Slovakia at the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championships. Olvecky finished tied for first on the club in goals and tied for third in scoring.

He was selected by Minnesota in the third round (78th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
